It seems that nature intended to bestow one of its most
wonderful gifts upon this peninsula on Lake Garda: thermal spring waters. The
sulphurous thermal waters at Sirmione Terme are rich in sodium, bromine and
iodine. They originate as the purest rainwater 30 km from Sirmione in the
drainage basin of Monte Baldo, in the Veneto Region. Here the waters filter down
from a height of 2,200 metres to a depth of 2,500 metres below sea level, where
they become hot and rich in beneficial minerals. It takes more than 20 years to
complete this cycle, before the waters gush forth from the Boiola, Virgilio and
Catullo thermal springs at a temperature of 70°C.
